PSG set new record for football highest wage bill

France club Paris Saint-Germain have set a record for the highest-ever wage bill in football at £643million per year.

The wage bill cumulated to the above figure, following the signing of Lionel Messi, Sergi Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and others in the 2021/2022 season, leading to a 45 per cent leap in their expenditure.

PSG already had big earners in the club before the arrival of Messi and others last season, with stars like Kyliam Mbappe and Neymar.

Football Benchmark’s European Champions Report for 2023 described PSG’s wage bill for 2021-22 as the highest figure ever registered by a football club.

The report was before France star Mbappe agreed to his new contract at the beginning of the current season, having snubbed Real Madrid, which is reportedly worth £547m over three years.

PSG’s enormous wage bill, could, however, have led them to record a £326m loss in their latest financial figures, according to Daily Mail UK.

Back in September, PSG were also handed a 56m fine by UEFA of which £9m had to be paid in full, for a breach of Financial Fair Play rules.
