“Tragedy struck in the Ibas community of Emuoha Local Government Area, Rivers State, as an explosion at an illegal oil refining site claimed the lives of at least 18 individuals, including a pregnant woman.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, October 1st, also left 25 others injured. A distressing video from the scene depicted the aftermath, with the remains of children, men, and women scattered across the area.
The explosion happened during an attempt by some community members to scoop petroleum products. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant, Basil Igwebueze, and Emuoha Local Government Area Chairman, Chidi Lloyd, confirmed the tragic incident.”
