Police in Lagos have arrested a vigilante member who burned a suspected thief to death.


The Lagos State Police Command apprehended Adekunle Agunbiade, a vigilante member, for reportedly burning a suspected thief to death in the Itire area.

Reports indicate that the victim had been initially detained and transferred to the vigilante for allegedly attempting to steal from a car parked on Shonde Street, Itire.


The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, verified the incident, stating, “At approximately 5 am on Tuesday, we received a distress call from a resident reporting that thieves had vandalized his car on their street.

” He added, “Upon investigation, it was revealed that one of the thieves was apprehended and handed over to the street’s vigilante, Adekunle Ogunbiade.” Hundeyin continued, “The complainant was astonished to discover later that the thief had been set on fire instead of being turned over to the police.” He concluded,

“The vigilante responsible has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.”
