Lookman can erase my Atalanta goals record –Makinwa

Former Atalanta striker, Ayodele Makinwa, has backed Ademola Lookman to surpass his goalscoring feat at the club, APROKOVIBES Sports Extra reports.

Makinwa, who joined Atalanta from Genoa in 2005, scored six times in 18 games for La Dea and Lookman is just one goal from equalling his feat.

The Nigerian winger has been in blistering form for Atalanta since arriving from RB Leipzig on a permanent deal at the start of the season.

He has been involved in eight (five goals, three assists) of the 18 goals Atalanta has scored so far in the Serie A this term.

The 25-year-old is also Atalanta’s top scorer in the league this season.

“I hope he breaks it,” Makinwa told APROKOVIBES Sports Extra.

“He did not show signs of initial struggles and has settled in well at the club.

“I’m confident he will set a new goalscoring record at the club but we must not put pressure on him on that. He is very prolific and he is becoming a fantastic buy for the club.”

Lookman will hope to continue his impressive for Atalanta on Saturday when they host table leaders Napoli at Gewiss Stadium.

The encounter will see him face off with countryman Victor Osimhen, whose last appearance in Serie A saw him score a hat-trick against Sassuolo.

Osimhen is currently the joint top scorer in the Serie A with Austrian Marko Arnautovic. Both strikers have seven league goals this season.

The pair is expected to be called up for Nigeria’s international friendly against Portugal in Lisbon in a fortnight.
