Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State.

Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, has strongly rejected the circulating claims of assassination attempts on his life.

Previously, LIB had conveyed that the state government issued a statement asserting that the governor narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by individuals clad in military attire in Lokoja.

Nevertheless, in a statement bearing his signature and released in Abuja, the governor dismissed the allegations as untrue and urged that they be dismissed.

He clarified that the episode amounted to a minor dispute between his private security team and military personnel responsible for road protection, emphasizing that there was no actual threat to his life.

He further noted that a minor scuffle occurred between Nigerian Police Force personnel assigned to his convoy and military unit members responsible for highway security. This confrontation took place while both units were fulfilling their lawful security responsibilities.

While the Governor praised the collaborative efforts of the security agencies in enhancing the safety of Kogi State residents and their property, he did request the respective leadership of these agencies to look into any cases of excessive zeal or unprofessional behavior among their personnel during the incident and take appropriate disciplinary actions.

The Governor urged the residents of Kogi State to disregard any efforts by political opportunists to exploit the situation and create instability as the state approaches the upcoming gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 11, 2023.

He provided reassurances that he is well-protected, and security measures have been appropriately established to guarantee that the elections will be conducted peacefully, impartially, and fairly.
