Home-based players to face Costa Rica in friendly



Nigeria will parade players from the Nigerian Professional Football League for next week’s international friendly against Costa Rica in San Jose.

The prestigious international friendly which will hold in the country’s capital, San Jose, on November 10, is the first meeting between both countries at the senior level.

According to reports, the overseas-based players will miss the encounter due to club engagements.

Our correspondent learnt that the team with 15 players started preparation for the game in Ibadan under the supervision of Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf, on Tuesday.

The players who trained at the Lekan Salami stadium are Mustapha Jibril (Abia Warriors), Alex Jerry (Lobi Stars), Garba Suleiman (Kebbi United), Samuel Kalu (Enyimba)
Afeez Nosir (Kwara United), Dominion Ohaka and Nathaniel Nwosu from Water FC, Paul Samson (Kwara United), Edidiong Ezekiel and Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars), Sunday Faleye (Unattached FC), Evans Ogbonda (Akwa United).

Bamayi Calocho and Isaiah Ejieh from Yum-Yum FC and Mjallby of Sweden complete the list.

The players and their officials are expected to depart for San Jose for the game on Thursday.

The friendly between the Eagles and Costa Rica is part of the major activities to send forth Los Ticos to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which kicks off November 20 and ends December 18.

Costa Rica are drawn in Group E alongside Germany, Japan and Spain.

The Super Eagles have another prestige friendly lined up against Portugal in Lisbon on November 17.
