Ghanaian lawmaker Isaac Adongo has expressed regret to Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, for drawing comparisons between him and vice president Mahamudu Bawumia.

Adongo chastised the vice president in 2022 for the nation’s dismal economic performance. Because neither VP nor Maguire was making much of an impact on their teams, he also made the comparison between them.

On Tuesday, November 21, Adongo apologised to Maguire during a budget debate in the parliament house. He said that the England defender had evolved into a “transformational footballer” and that the vice president now “roams at the IMF with a cup in hand.”

“Mr. Speaker, I now apologise to Harry Maguire,” Adongo said. Harry Maguire is a transformative football player now that he has turned the corner.

“Harry Maguire is a crucial player for Manchester United right now, but our Maguire, Mr. Bawumia, is currently hanging around the IMF with a cup in his hand,” the MP continued.
