Kannywood Actress Hadiza Aliyu, Popularly Known as Hadiza Gabon, Takes Civil Servant Bala Musa to Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna for Alleged Character Defamation

Hadiza Gabon, the renowned Kannywood actress, initiated legal action against Bala Musa, a civil servant, at a Magistrates’ court located on Daura Road in Kaduna. She accused him of defaming her character. Represented by her counsel, Mr. Mubarak Sani, the actress claimed that the defendant’s false accusations had resulted in negative public reactions and comments about her, particularly on social media. She was wrongfully labeled a cheat who purportedly took money from Musa but refused to marry him, an allegation that was proven false.

The defendant, represented by his counsel, Mr. Naira Murtala, denied the allegations. Chief Magistrate Shamsudeen Sulaiman inquired whether the complainant had witnesses, and they confirmed their affirmative response. The Chief Magistrate granted bail to the accused with the condition that he must provide two reliable sureties who were residents of Kaduna State and civil servants. The case was adjourned to November 15 for the presentation of witnesses by the complainant.

It’s worth noting that the defendant had previously filed a suit against Aliyu at Shari’a Court I, Magajin Gari in March 2022. He accused the actress of failing to marry him after he had given her N396,000. At the time, the actress denied any knowledge of Musa, stating that she had never met or communicated with him and had no relationship with him whatsoever.

The complainant’s counsel presented a bank statement to the Shari’a court, revealing that four individuals were recipients of the money claimed to have been sent to the defendant. Two of the recipients, Fatima Abdullahi and Abdullahi Yusuf, admitted to impersonating the actress and receiving money in her name. They sought forgiveness from the court.

Following several prayers by Murtala to transfer the case to an Upper Shari’a Court, Judge Isiyaku Abdulrahman dismissed the case on October 31 and discharged Aliyu. He ordered the defendant’s counsel and his client to pay N500,000 to the actress as compensation for wasting her time.
