On Friday, February 16, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State hosted Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali in recognition of his outstanding performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.

During the event, the governor announced a reward of N20 million for Nwabali and declared his intention to bestow upon him the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.

Fubara commended Rivers-born Nwabali for his outstanding performance at the recently concluded 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Fubara expressed, “I want to extend my congratulations, along with those of the great people of Rivers State, to our brother Stanley Nwabali and our exceptional team.

We gather here once again, just about four months after your triumph in a local competition.”

“Today, you have secured a national trophy. Hence, when people question our efforts, we demonstrate that we are accomplishing meaningful endeavors that may not always be visible but bring joy and fulfillment.

If our support hadn’t motivated you, you wouldn’t have reached this level. This reflects purposeful governance and administrative efficiency.

I express gratitude and assure you that we will persist in our commitment to excellence.”

The governor encouraged the people of Rivers to persistently engage in activities that positively represent the state and bring honor to it.

Christopher Green, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, commended Fubara for his encouragement, which inspired the Rivers Hoopers basketball team to emerge as champions in the national League tournament.

Additionally, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, a former Commissioner for Justice and a former Super Eagles player, acknowledged the significance of sports development in the state and praised Governor Fubara’s effective leadership.
