Sir Bobby Charlton, Iconic Football Star, Succumbs to Dementia at 86, a World Cup Hero and Former Ballon D’or Winner.

Sir Bobby Charlton, the celebrated hero of England’s 1966 World Cup victory, sadly passed away at the age of 86.

The legendary former Manchester United player breathed his last on Saturday, October 21, following a battle with dementia, occurring just a week after celebrating his birthday.

His brother, Jack, who passed away at the age of 85 in July 2020, also endured the challenges of this disease in his later years.

His sibling Gordon, aged 79, succumbed to the challenges of both cancer and dementia in January.

His dead was confirm by the family statement;

The family’s statement expressed:

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“He was surrounded by his family. His family would like to pass on their thanks to everyone who has contributed to his care and for the many people who have loved and supported him.

“We would request that the family’s privacy be respected at this time.”

Sir Bobby is widely recognized as one of the finest footballers ever produced by England. He played a pivotal role in the Three Lions’ World Cup triumph in 1966 and went on to secure the Ballon d’Or award later that same year.

Moreover, he scored an impressive 249 goals across 758 matches for Manchester United, notably contributing to their historic first European Cup victory in 1968.

Manchester United also expressed their condolences for the football legend, stating that the club is in a state of mourning after the announcement.

In their official statement, Manchester United conveyed, ‘Sir Bobby was an icon admired by millions, not only in Manchester or the United Kingdom but also wherever the beautiful game is played globally.

Although primarily positioned as a midfielder, Sir Bobby managed to score an additional 49 goals in 106 appearances for the England national team.
