Fake EFCC officer arrested in Kwara.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC arrested Usman Akogun, who posed as an EFCC officer, deceiving victims by promising to help with their cases. According to Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Akogun, from Babanla in Kwara State, was apprehended in Ilorin on March 27, 2024.

Oyewale stated, “The scam came to light when the EFCC received intelligence about Akogun’s fraudulent activities.” Akogun, claiming to be an EFCC officer, allegedly took N.5m from Mrs.

Khadizah Abdullahi, promising to secure bail for her sons held for internet fraud.

Mrs. Abdullahi became suspicious when Akogun failed to deliver on his promise. She noticed discrepancies such as the lack of customary salutes and interactions among EFCC officers during their visit.

Instead of releasing her sons, the suspects took Mrs. Abdullahi outside the office to collect the promised N.5m and demanded an extra N200,000 for bail.

It was during this attempt to extort more money that the law caught up with him. The suspect will face charges once investigations are completed.
