Ethiopian Airlines has announced that passengers boarding their flights from Nigeria will no longer be allowed to carry ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags. These sac-like load carriers are popular in Nigeria for their various sizes, colors, durability, and affordability.

The ban, effective from November 25, 2023, was communicated through a letter dated November 24, 2023, addressed to the Regional Manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

It noted, “Please be informed that effective November 25, 2023, the usage of Ghana Must Go to travel on our flight is hereby prohibited,” the letter read.

“The use of Ghana Must Go as a means of packing baggage has cost the airlines huge loss and also damaged the conveyor belt system, not only on our flight but also on other foreign airlines, hence the prohibition.”

The airline, however, allows users of the bag to continue utilizing them for packing their luggage. This is permitted under the condition that the bags must be well packed within cartons or hardcovers of a rectangular size.
