Entertainers who missed shows, angered fans

In recent times, some entertainers have disappointed their fans by not showing up for shows they had been paid for. Saturday Beats takes a look at some entertainers who have been involved in this situation this year

Afrobeats singer, Ayo Balogun, aka Wizkid, was recently called out on social media after he failed to show up for his show in Ghana on Saturday, December 10, 2022. It was supposed to be the first time the singer would be headlining a show in the West African country.

The concert, which was tagged, ‘Wizkid Live’, was organised by the Final Entertainment Group, the parent company of Live Hub Entertainment. A day before the show, the singer had written on Twitter, “Accra sports stadium tonight!”

However, he refused to turn up, which got his waiting fans angry.

He later apologised for his action in a tweet on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He wrote, “Ghana is a country I hold so dear.  To my fans, you all know I would never do anything without a serious reason behind it. My brand is something I don’t joke with! I sincerely apologise to everyone who made the effort to come out last night. I was charged up and looking forward to doing this show.

“Unfortunately, up until the day of this show, there continued to be safety and production issues that prevented me from putting on a high-quality show that my fans deserve. My team and I are working on delivering a show to my amazing fans in Ghana. It will be just us; me and you. Date and details soon. (I) love you.”

Skit maker, Emmaunuel Ejekwu, aka Oga Sabinus, disappointed students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, after he failed to turn up for a show he had been paid N2m for. The show’s organiser, Johnbosco Ezeuchegbu, aka Crazylegs, was beaten by the disgruntled students because they assumed he had defrauded them.

Crazylegs also took to Instagram to share receipts of the money he paid to the comedian.

On his part, Sabinus later apologised for not turning up at the event. He wrote, “Good morning my Oko people. I know that you are angry with me. Please, don’t be angry. I was supposed to come to Oko yesterday for the show with Crazylegs.

“Something happened. My health was so bad. I just avoided the whole thing. I was just afraid, and I did not want to break down on the road.”

Kizz Daniel

Singer, Oluwatobiloba Daniel, aka Kizz Daniel, was arrested on Monday, August 8, 2022, following his refusal to perform at a show in Tanzania. In an interview with media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, aka Daddy Freeze, the show promoter, Stephen Uwa, said that despite pleading with Kizz Daniel to keep to his side of the bargain, the singer refused.

Uwa said, “He (Kizz Daniel) only said the airline didn’t bring his bag. That is why he could not perform, because his gold chain was not there; yet he had another gold chain on his neck. He wanted everything.”

The singer later performed for his fans in Tanzania for free on Friday, August 12, 2022, as a compensation for disappointing them earlier.
