The ECOWAS Community Court in Abuja has told Benin Republic’s government to give Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (also known as Sunday Igboho), 20 million CFA as compensation.

This is because they unlawfully held him and violated his basic human rights.

During the judgment of a case filed by Igboho in Abuja yesterday, the court told the country to pay him 20 million CFA within three months from the day of judgment.

The judges, Gberi-Bé Ouattara, Sengu M. Koroma, and Ricardo Claúdio Monteiro GONÇALVES, all agreed on the decision. They also ordered the government of Benin Republic to show proof of the payment to the court within the given time.

Adeyemo wanted his basic rights to be respected after he got arrested on July 21, 2021, while traveling to Germany through the neighboring country. He stayed in custody for over a year.
