On Monday, April 15, a tragic incident occurred on the Ikirun-Osogbo road in Osun State, resulting in the death of a student from Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The student, identified as Olanrewaju Olatona, a National Diploma 2 student and Financial Secretary of the Department of Mass Communication, lost his life after a trailer driver, reportedly driving against traffic, collided with the motorcycle he was riding along with another passenger.
Despite efforts, Olatona succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was in preparation for the one-year Industrial Training programme.
Following the accident, the driver fled the scene and remains at large. In response, Osun State Polytechnic students organized a procession at the school gate and blocked the expressway for several hours in protest.
