Court Orders Detention of Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele in Kuje Prison.

Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been placed under house arrest in Kuje prison while his request for bail is processed, according to an order issued by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory’s High Court in Abuja.

During Emefiele’s trial on November 17, the court decided that he would stay behind bars until November 22 while his bail request is reviewed. On behalf of the Federal Government, Rotimi Oyedepo angrily contested the bail plea made by his principal attorney, Mathew Burkaa SAN.

Following the presentations of arguments in favor and against the application, Justice Muazu stated that a bench ruling couldn’t be issued due to the numerous legal precedents cited by both parties. The Judge expressed the need for some time to examine the authorities and review the grounds presented by Emefiele for his bail.
