Confed Cup award excites Acquah

Rivers United forward, Paul Acquah, is still basking in the euphoria of his incredible run in the CAF Confederation Cup, after one of his strikes on match-day four was voted as the Goal of The Week, The APROKOVIBES reports.

The second goal in his hat-trick against Motema Pembe last Thursday was announced by CAF as the top strike of the week in the Confederation Cup.

Having opened scoring with a header, Ghanaian Acquah scored the second goal in spectacular fashion, finishing off a cross from compatriot Emmanuel Ampiah with a swift left volley inside the box.

“The moment the ball went back to the left side, I already anticipated a cross, so, I just knew I had to time my run into the box. A defender was on me, so, I needed to hit the ball straight since the marker was on one side,” Acquah narrated the moment to APROKOVIBES Sports Extra.

“I feel good to know it’s the Goal of The Week, I think it is a good feeling that makes the player to work extra hard.”

Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma, also hailed the player’s impact ahead of his side’s rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League match-day eight clash against Enugu Rangers in Port Harcourt.

“Paul has really done well for himself and the team, but he’s not the only one that can get us the goals. I won’t mind though, if his goals can win us the match against Rangers, or any other team”, Eguma said.

After completing their last rescheduled NPFL game against Rangers on Wednesday (today), the league champions return to Uyo as they await Congolese side Diable Noirs on match-day five of the CAF Confederation Cup.
