Rapper Kendrick Lamar
The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, held at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center and broadcasted on Tuesday night, October 10, saw rapper Kendrick Lamar clinching the title of the evening’s ultimate champion.
The artist, who secured four awards, triumphed in every category he was nominated for, including hip hop artist of the year, lyricist of the year, best live performer, and video director of the year, sharing the honor with his collaborator Dave Free.
Rapper, actor, and executive producer Fat Joe served as the host for the evening, which was broadcasted on Tuesday, October 10. The event was highlighted by seasoned emcee Kendrick Lamar leading the pack with four victories.
Lil Uzi Vert and Metro Boomin both secured two wins each, and Lil Durk and J. Cole were recognized for their collaboration on “All My Life.” Bronx native Ice Spice earned the title of this year’s “Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist,” while Blak Sherif brought pride to his home country of Ghana by accepting the “Best International Flow” award.
The evening was electrified with exciting performances by various artists, including GloRilla, Sexyy Red, T.I., Jezzy, and many others.
Renowned producers and founders of “Verzuz,” Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, were honored with the “Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award” in recognition of their significant cultural contributions to the genre. Following this, they had the privilege of presenting the “I Am Hip Hop Award” to the hip-hop pioneer, Marley Marl.
