Athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia emerged victorious in the Lagos City Marathon.

Once again, East African runners have dominated the 2024 edition of the annual 42km Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Bernard Sang of Kenya clinched victory in the men’s category on Saturday, finishing with a time of 02:16:49 and claiming the $50,000 prize money.

Sang, aged 32, joins the ranks of Kenyan victors in the annual competition, which has been consistently dominated by the East African country, securing wins in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2021.

His compatriots, Cheprot and Edwin Kiptoo, secured the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively, further showcasing Kenyan dominance.

Ethiopia’s 25-year-old Kebene Chala made history as the first woman to cross the finish line at the 2024 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

The latest edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon featured more than 81 world-class elite runners vying for the top prize.
