APC urges Rivers lawmakers to impeach Gov. Fubara immediately.

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has instructed members of the House of Assembly, under Martin Amaewhule’s leadership, to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Tony Okocha, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, issued this directive during a media conference held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, May 7.

Okocha’s directive came in response to Governor Fubara’s recent statement declaring the non-existence of the Assembly members in the eyes of the law.

This declaration escalated tensions between the governor and the 27 Assembly members aligned with former governor Nyesom Wike, following the thwarting of an impeachment attempt against the governor.

During a meeting with a delegation from Bayelsa State led by former governor Seriake Dickson, at Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara criticized the Amaewhule-led lawmakers, asserting their non-existence legally.

He highlighted his efforts towards reconciliation despite political disagreements with Wike, emphasizing his acceptance of a peace accord to resolve the crisis.

In response to Fubara’s remarks, Okocha emphasized that the governor lacked the authority to nullify the Assembly members’ status.

He condemned Fubara’s disrespect towards President Bola Tinubu and the party, stating that the APC would not tolerate such behavior. Consequently, Okocha announced the party’s decision to instruct APC Assembly members to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, citing a lack of respect for the rule of law.

Okocha warned of disciplinary actions if the Assembly failed to act accordingly, stressing the importance of upholding party discipline.

He criticized Fubara’s governance, accusing him of mismanagement of state funds and described his administration as clueless and directionless.

Okocha affirmed the APC’s commitment to opposing Fubara’s government and ensuring accountability in Rivers State.
