A suspected robber was apprehended for assaulting an Okada rider with a cutlass and stealing his motorcycle in Niger State.

The suspect was arrested by the Police operatives of Kudu outstation

The Niger State Police Command apprehended Usman Maniya, a suspected robber, for assaulting a commercial motorcyclist and stealing his bike.

According to DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s spokesperson, the suspect posed as a passenger and hired the rider to transport him to a destination.

On January 19, 2024, at approximately 1:00 PM, the Kudu Police outstation in Mokwa Division received information regarding the incident.

The statement disclosed that Maniya, aged 22 and hailing from Gbete village, attacked the rider with a cutlass, severing the victim’s right hand before absconding with the unregistered Bajaj motorcycle valued at approximately seven hundred thousand naira.

Police operatives from Kudu outstation apprehended the suspect based on community information, recovering both the cutlass and the motorcycle.

The injured victim was admitted to the General Hospital Mokwa, where he is receiving medical treatment. Maniya has been charged to court for prosecution.
