A man has been detained for fleeing after consuming two plates of fish peppersoup and drinking five buckets of alcohol at a local establishment.

In the capital city of Adamawa state, Yola, an area court has ordered the detention of a driver named David Donald for defrauding a woman of more than five buckets of local alcohol, known as burkutu.

According to police prosecutor Sgt Kabiru Abubakar, the defendant visited a local joint in Yola on February 21, 2024, where he ordered five plastic buckets of burkutu and two plates of fish pepper soup worth N6,600.

However, he attempted to flee without paying for the items.

Donald, hailing from Karim Lamido LGA in Taraba State, pleaded guilty to the charge of cheating, as outlined in Section 302 of the Penal Code, before being remanded.

His arrest followed a report by the complainants, Felicity Sunday and Linda Ali, to the police.
